Dublin Bus/CIÉ: Stop promoting LGBT "Pride" parade

The LGBT "Pride" parade, which occurred at the end of this past June, was heavily promoted by Dublin Bus - as the accompanying picture attests.

Also, according to the online site "Her", at the launch of the rainbow-festooned buses promoting the parade, Ray Coyne, Dublin Bus Chief Executive, is quoted as saying: "We are delighted to support another year of Dublin Pride. Our commitment to diversity and inclusion stems from our Equality and Diversity strategy that was first introduced in 2003...We are a diverse workforce serving a diverse community."

But, of course, Dublin Bus is part of the Córas Iompair Éireann Group, better known as CIÉ. And, CIÉ is a statutory body, owned by the Government of Ireland, and, therefore, ultimately, by the people of Ireland.

Legally-speaking, it is highly dubious as to whether publicly owned bodies may spend public monies to promote political causes. For, even if the same-sex "marriage" issue has been (at least, temporarily) settled by a referendum, surely, other issues around the LGBT political agenda (like, the hugely contentious issues of surrogacy and the teaching of LGBT-related subjects in schools) are still up for rigorous public debate.

As such, this petition asks CIÉ and Dublin Bus to cease and desist any current and, or, future support of the "Pride" parade, including the decoration of buses.

CIÉ and Dublin Bus cannot use its "Equality and Diversity strategy" as cover for promoting one cause (the LGBT agenda) disproportionately, to the way they promote other causes. What other annual event, for a small minority of workers/community members, receives such attention and, ultimately, taxpayer-funded support?

As public bodies - Dublin Bus and CIÉ should not promote LGBT political aims

For the Kind Attention of:

  • CIÉ Board Member and Chairman of Bus Átha Cliath - Mr Ultan Courtney
  • Ombudsman of the Irish Government - Mr Peter Tyndall

This year, in advance of Dublin's LGBT "Pride" parade, Dublin Bus decorated some of its buses with the colours of the rainbow - imitating the flag with activists use to promote the LGBT social and political agenda.

And, along with the rainbow colours, slogans, such as, "Dublin Bus - Get On Board With Pride - Supporting Dublin LGBTQ Pride 2017", appeared on the side of the same buses (as pictured on the description page of this petition).

But, everyone knows, by now, that the rainbow colours and such slogans are obviously political in nature. After all, a referendum on same-sex "marriage" was voted on, in 2015.

And, as everyone also probably knows (and, as is stated on its website), Dublin Bus is, "a wholly owned subsidiary of the state-owned Córas Iompair Éireann Group" [better known as CIÉ].

CIÉ, as a statutory body, is wholly owned by the Irish Government; and, hence, by the people of Ireland - who have mixed opinions about such contentious issues, as promoting the LGBT political agenda.

Therefore, given the political nature of such advertising, and given the fact that CIÉ is a publicly owned body (i.e., taxpayer-funded), we, the undersigned, believe that CIÉ and Dublin Bus should cease and desist from any current and, or, future promotion of the LGBT "Pride" parade.

Thank you for your serious consideration.

Sincerely,
[Your Name]
