Delaware Parents: Say NO to Dept of Ed.'s attempt to parent your children on sexual/racial identity

In July, the Democratic Governor of the state of Delaware, John Carney, sent a memo to the Delaware Department of Education, to address "discrimination" in the public schools of the state.

In particular, the memo called for, "a model anti-discrimination policy that each district and charter could adopt, or tailor and adopt, to suit the needs of their students."

Now, everyone would agree that equal opportunity is a goal towards which we should all work, and, that, to that end, discrimination, based on creed, race/ethnicity, and sex, should be eliminated.

However, the proposed regulations - in two important sections - go far beyond attempting to eliminate discrimination.

Sections 7.4 and 7.4.1 positively usurp parental authority, by placing the state as the primary decision-maker regarding what is best for a child (a minor, obviously) in terms of his or her understanding of their own sexuality and race.

Leaving race aside for the moment, the sexual function of a child and their sexual identity is a deeply personal thing. Simply put, discussions about such matters should not occur between a member of staff at a school and a child. In such a situation, the parents should be notified, and they - and, only they - should be the ones to discuss such matters with their children.

As the parents are the primary educators of their children - both in terms of practical and personal matters - the school system has no right to insert itself into such a delicate situation.

BUT, that's not what the amendment to the '14 DE Admin. Code 225 Prohibition of Discrimination' proposes.

Here are sections 7.4 and 7.4.1, as they appear in the proposed amendment:

7.4 All students enrolled in a Delaware public school may self-identify gender or race which is maintained in eSchoolPLUS.

7.4.1 A school may request permission from the parent or legal guardian of a minor student before a self-identified gender or race is accepted; provided, however, that prior to requesting the permission from a parent or legal guardian, the school should consult and work closely with the student to assess the degree to which, if any, the parent or legal guardian is aware of the Protected Characteristic and is supportive of the student, and the school shall take into consideration the safety, health and well-being of the student in deciding whether to request permission from the parent or legal guardian.

Notice how these sections of the proposed amendment allow for a child to "...self-identify [their] gender or race...," with school personnel making the decision about whether or not to consult that child's parents in requesting permission from them (i.e., the parents), pertaining to the child's request.

Again, this is an outrageous usurpation of parental rights by the state. And, school authorities are NOT qualified to make such decisions regarding the children of the state of Delaware.

In fact, many distinguished psychiatrists are now speaking out, against the wrong-headed notion that sex is fluid and a matter of choice. In particular, they are concerned about the welfare of children and young people in this regard.

For example, Dr Paul McHugh, former psychiatrist-in-chief at Johns Hopkins, who has studied the phenomenon of gender dysphoria for 40 years, has stated that the idea of gender fluidity "is doing much damage to families, adolescents, and children and should be confronted as an opinion without biological foundation wherever it emerges".

School is a place to learn to read, do math, find out about our history, and study science. It is not a place to affirm - in the minds of our children - the ideologies of other adults.

Should the state choose to pursue this dangerous course of action, any harm (physical or mental) done to a child in the state of Delaware, as a result of this wrong-headed agenda, should be pursued in a court of law.

Please SIGN this petition and help oppose this brazen effort, by the state, to usurp the rights and duties of the parents of Delaware.

Thank you!

Delaware Dept of Education Has No Right To Parent A Child In Relation To Sexual/Racial Identity

For the Attention of:

  • Delaware Secretary of Education - Dr Susan Bunting
  • The Office of the Governor of Delaware - Mr John Carney
  • The Anti-Discrimination Guidance Team of the Delaware Department of Education

These days, it seems as though anything and everything - even those things which contradict nature and which manifestly fly in the face of common sense and proper order in society - can be done in the name of "anti-discrimination."

Of course, we are all opposed to discrimination based on creed, race and sex, but we must take issue with the proposed amendment to '14 DE Admin. Code 225 Prohibition of Discrimination.'

In particular, we strongly object to Sections 7.4 and 7.4.1, which allow for a child to "...self-identify [their] gender or race...," with school personnel making the decision about whether or not to consult that child's parents in requesting permission from them (i.e., the parents), pertaining to the child's request.

This is an outrageous usurpation of parental rights by the state. And, school authorities are NOT qualified to make such decisions regarding the children of the State of Delaware.

Parents are the primary educators of their children, not the state. Particularly, in the areas of sexual identity and race.

After all, school is a place to learn to read, do math, find out about our history, and study science. It is not a place to affirm - in the minds of our children - the ideologies of other adults.

Any effort to usurp the rights and duties of the parents of Delaware will be vigorously opposed.

And, should the state choose to pursue this dangerous course of action, any harm (physical or mental) done to a child in the state of Delaware, as a result of this wrong-headed agenda, will be pursued in a court of law.

State officials: STOP trying to parent the children of Delaware!

Sincerely,
[Your Name]
