Support the Ohio bill to ban abortion based on disability!

Abortion is a grave evil in our society. It’s critical that we fight on all fronts to empower women and protect vulnerable, unborn babies. There are many means by which we can accomplish this goal, but we should applaud every legal limitation to abortion as it represents lives saved.

Last week, Ohio State Representatives Sarah LaTourette (R-Chesterland) and Derek Merrin (R-Monclova Township) introduced House Bill 214, the Down Syndrome Non-Discrimination Act, which would prohibit abortion on the basis of a prenatal Down syndrome diagnosis. This is very important legislation and it would save lives in our state!

It has now been referred to the Ohio House Health Committee. Please urge the members of the Health Committee to vote yes on this important legislation so that the entire legislative body can consider it.

Children diagnosed in utero with disabilities are aborted at an alarmingly high rate. Nine hospital-based studies found the rate of abortion at their institutions to be as high as 85% when a preborn child is diagnosed with Down syndrome.

By the time that Down syndrome can be diagnosed, the baby is already in the second trimester of development.

By the second trimester, babies in the womb are listening to their mother’s voice, doing summersaults, and sucking their thumb. These are precious little babies who can feel incredible pain. We must support every restriction we can that will protect these innocent little ones from being killed simply because of a disability.

Killing a baby because he has Down syndrome or because she’s a girl and not a boy is an abomination. We must remember that every abortion is the ending of a human life that is made in the image of God. There is sanctity in each and every human life, and we must fight on all fronts to protect unborn children.

Although we must always work towards completely outlawing any abortions in our country, this restriction is a step in the right direction to save lives!

House Bill 214 has great potential to save lives and curb the abortion culture in our state. Please sign this petition and urge the Ohio House Health Committee to vote yes to protecting children with Down syndrome!

I urge you to vote yes on this legislation to protect children with Down syndrome from being aborted simply because of a disability.
