Hold the New York Times Accountable for Promoting Planned Parenthood!
Recently, there has been a lot of talk by the Left about the danger of “Fake News.” Major Media outlets decry alternative news outlets as untrustworthy and demand that the general public trust them, and them alone.
But unfortunately, the mainstream media constantly publishes blatantly biased, partisan, and misleading “news articles” with the obvious intention of swaying public opinion to the left.
Recently, the New York Times celebrated and applauded the WNBA team “Seattle Storm” for fundraising for and partnering with Planned Parenthood. During July, the Seattle Storm held a fundraiser titled “Stand With Planned Parenthood.” The owner of the team has come out saying that she strongly supports the work of Planned Parenthood and is proud the basketball team is partnering with that.
Instead of criticizing the Seattle Storm for this partnership—or even merely reporting it—the New York Times praised and lauded the team. This is not unbiased reporting. Join us in demanding that the New York Times get back to the business of reporting. If mainstream media outlets want our trust, they must earn it by demonstrating that they will only publish unbiased information. The New York Times should not be the PR wing of Planned Parenthood and its supporters.
The New York Times, which has run multiple articles on the “historic” partnership, is demonstrating through their “reporting” that they too applaud the work of Planned Parenthood. Back in March, we let you know that the New York Times “reported” that defunding Planned Parenthood would seriously harm women. To back up this claim, the New York Times relied on a misleading study conducted by a disreputable, highly partisan group.
But the New York Times never seems to cover the actual facts about Planned Parenthood. Planned Parenthood clinics (1) do not offer prenatal care, (2) won’t allow use of ultrasounds for anything other than abortions, and, in fact, (3) are required to meet certain quotas of abortions each month.
What do “evil” conservatives want to do with funding currently going to Planned Parenthood? They want to redirect that money to community health centers. Community women’s health centers offer more and better care for pregnant and non-pregnant women alike—and they outnumber Planned Parenthood offices 20 to 1!
But, for some reason, the New York Times doesn’t consider this information newsworthy.
This kind of partisan reporting has got to stop. It is clear that the editors of the New York Times believe that abortion must be protected. But it is not their job to tell us what to think. It is their job to report the news in an unbiased manner. We need to hold the mainstream media accountable for their actions and demand that the journalism industry return to the standards of neutrality that are so critical for our democracy.
