Irish Citizens' Assembly Disgraceful Abortion Bias Must be Amended
The Citizens’ Assembly in Ireland are now discussing the issue of the 8th Amendment – the Amendment to the Irish Constitution which guarantees that both the life of the mother and her baby are treated equally.
The 99 members are present to discuss the status of this Amendment and whether or not it should be repealed. But it has rightly been heavily criticised by prolife groups across Ireland for its appalling bias in favour of the prochoice/pro-abortion position.
The Citizens’ Assembly heard from the British Pregnancy Advisory Service (BPAS), abortion extremists and one of the largest abortion providers in the UK, who support the revolting practice of sex-selective abortion – where baby girls are killed for the crime of being baby girls – and want abortion to be legal throughout all nine months of pregnancy.
They also heard from the Guttmacher Institute – the research wing of Planned Parenthood which is the largest abortion provider in the United States.
As Niamh Uí Bhriain of the Life Institute has said,
"These are people who make a living from abortion, and they are being presented to the Assembly as impartial experts when, in fact, they will do everything they can to sell the idea of legalised abortion in Ireland.”
In addition the BPAS’ extremism, a damning report by the Care Quality Commission noted serious failures to ensure women's safety in its Merseyside clinic - a clinic which touts for business amongst Irish women.
The report highlighted a litany of safety issues around infection control, resuscitation equipment, and incidents being properly investigated - with the NHS identifying 16 serious incidents in the clinic in a three year period.
The Citizens’ Assembly is bringing itself into disrepute by hosting these abortion extremists who care nothing for the life of the unborn child and apparently are not especially concerned with the health of women either.
The imbalance must be redressed. The Citizens’ Assembly must now hear from pro-life speakers/groups who will be able to advocate on behalf not only of the unborn child but also on behalf of all those women who regret their abortions and those seeking an alternative.
