Support Ms Tanya Davies in her new appointment as Minister for Women
Since NSW Premier, Gladys Berejiklian’s cabinet was officially sworn in on Monday, there has been some controversy regarding her appointment of the new Minister for Women, Tanya Davies.
Why, because, the new Minister for women, is pro-life.
Tanya Davies, Liberal MP for Mulgoa, stated this week following the appointment: “I am pro-life personally, but in my role, I’m there to support all women.”
Immediately, following this appointment, Ms Davies came under fire from pro-abortion groups including the Women's Electoral Lobby, who expressed concern that the Minister had stated her own personal views ‘too soon’.
More accurately perhaps, Ms Davies, had expressed the wrong personal view, one which is often shut down in feminist discourse. Apparently, you cannot be pro-woman and at the same time support the human right to life of all. We saw incredible examples of this in recent weeks in America and even in Sydney with the women’s marches that refused to allow pro-life organisations to march.
Ms Davies was also accused of voting for Zoe’s law, which was legislation introduced in NSW in 2013 in an attempt to recognise the humanity of a baby at 20 weeks gestation.
Such interjections of the last few days highlight the refusal of the mainstream media and many political lobby groups to recognise that many women in Australia stand for life. Many women believe that being pro-life is also radically pro-women. Many women believe that being pro-life is also about helping women facing unplanned pregnancies with real support and real solutions.
This discussion cannot be shut down or hijacked by those who do not defend the right to life of those in our community who are most vulnerable. We thank the Minister for her courage in choosing not to be shut out of this discussion.
We can also refuse to be dictated to as to what ‘type’ of woman can enter the political debate. We need strong women to stand for human rights of all people, born and preborn.
We would like to encourage Ms Davies and other politicians to stand for their convictions and protect all life.
Please sign this petition to congratulate and show your support for Ms Davies in her new role. This petition and any of your messages will be sent to the Minister in the coming week.
