Let Kiwi women speak!
Chris Hipkins - what is a woman?!
Chris Hipkins - what is a woman?!
On Saturday, 25th March, the prominent UK activist Kellie-Jay Keen was met with violence when she attempted to hold a rally in support of women’s rights in Auckland, New Zealand.
Keen was assaulted by a transgender-identified man who doused her in tomato soup after violent transgender rights activists breached security barriers thanks to a lack of any meaningful police presence. Disturbing video footage shows Kellie-Jay needing to be surrounded by a team of volunteer stewards and escorted away from a violent mob in fear for her life. She was later forced to leave New Zealand as the police told her that her safety could not be guaranteed.
In a separate incident, a 70-year-old woman attending the event suffered a fractured eye socket after she was repeatedly headbutted and punched in the face by a violent transgender rights activist.
This unacceptable violence was foreseeable thanks to the hyperbole and rhetoric being whipped up towards Kellie-Jay by the media and New Zealand politicians before her visit.
The lack of protection for Kellie-Jay and the women who attended her event clearly violates their rights to free speech and personal safety.
This violence and intimidation were intended to act as a chilling warning for other women in New Zealand wanting to hold similar events.
It is deeply concerning that women in a supposedly free and democratic country like New Zealand are being prevented from participating in public debate about their rights. A strong message must be sent to the violent transgender activists seeking to close down the debate.
Worryingly, New Zealand’s Prime Minister, Chris Hipkins, has contributed to the hatred directed at Kellie-Jay Keen by misrepresenting her views and calling them ‘abhorrent’. Hipkins has also declined to define what a woman is, stating that the question is ‘slightly out of left field’. If Hipkins cannot state what a woman is, then he cannot stand up for 50% of his country and is unfit for office.
Sign the petition calling upon New Zealand’s prime minister to apologise to Kellie-Jay Keen for mischaracterising her views and for his country’s failure to keep her safe. Ask Mr Hipkins to make reparations and uphold freedom of speech by inviting Kellie-Jay Keen back to the country in order to hold her cancelled rallies and provide her with the necessary protection to keep her safe.
Tell Mr Hipkins that he must protect the rights and freedoms of all New Zealand’s citizens regardless of their views on controversial issues.
