"Melbourne Doctor Falsely Accused and Suspended for His Conservative Views
Melbourne-based medical doctor, Dr Jereth Kok, was suspended from practice in August 2019 by the Medical Board of Australia (MBA) not because of any medical unprofessionalism, but because of an anonymous complaint concerning certain of his posts on social media, one of which was finally used against him.
Dr Kok, a Christian, who has deeply held and informed views on marriage, abortion and euthanasia, used irony to scorn the decadent West for exporting its culture of death to poorer countries--something that would be obvious to any reasonable reader. We seek the reinstatement of Dr Jereth Kok FRACGP MBBS, suspended, as we understand, for reasons not related to his medical practice, but in response to anonymous complaints over certain of his posts on social media.
Not only have Dr Kok’s career and livelihood been jeopardized, but two hundred or so regular patients who had him as their preferred doctor are now without his expertise and services.
Dr Kok's suspension by the MBA confirms the worst fears of many Australians, that changed laws in relation to abortion, marriage, and euthanasia, weaponized by anti-discrimination legislation, would lead to individuals willing to voice their concerns, being targeted for punishment and silenced.
We find it deeply troubling that a professional body such as the MBA has been co-opted in this manner, and call upon it to reverse its decision and reinstate Dr Kok, for the sake of his career and livelihood, his family and his patients, the MBA’s own reputation, and the freedoms of all Australians.
