In their attempt to ban conversion therapy in Canada, left-wing politicians may criminalize the actions of parents, pastors, and professionals who are honestly trying to help Canadians deal with same-sex attraction and gender dysphoria.

On Monday, November 29th, Minister of Justice David Lametti and Minister of Women and Gender Equality and Youth Marci Ien introduced, Bill C-4, the third attempt of the Trudeau government to ban so-called “conversion therapy”.

To be clear, conversion therapy has in the past sometimes used physically and psychologically destructive methods of changing the brain such as electroshock therapy. This form of conversion therapy, as well as forcing people to undergo conversion therapy, should be restricted. But Bill C-4 goes much further than that:

Bill C-4 defines conversion therapy as acts that do the following:

(a) change a person’s sexual orientation to heterosexual;

(b) change a person’s gender identity to cisgender;

(c) change a person’s gender expression so that it conforms to the sex assigned to the person at birth;

(d) repress or reduce non-heterosexual attraction or sexual behaviour;

(e) repress a person’s non-cisgender gender identity; or

(f) repress or reduce a person’s gender expression that does not conform to the sex assigned to the person at birth.

Due to this broad definition, groups like Courage International, who simply help people with same-sex attraction to live chaste lives through spiritual guidance, would be labelled a “conversion therapy” group. If Bill C-4 passes, organizers in groups like these could face 5 years of jail.

The possibility of being sent to jail for providing “conversion therapy” would also apply to pastors and spiritual counsellors, as well as professionals who provide counselling and talk therapy to people who are experiencing unwanted same-sex attraction or gender dysphoria. Even merely advertising conversion therapy is criminalized under Bill C-4.

Bill C-4 is significantly more extreme than Trudeau’s previous version of this bill. Its predecessor, Bill C-6, banned children who have an unwanted same-sex attraction or gender dysphoria from seeking spiritual or psychological counselling (which is in itself a severe infringement on parental rights), as well as banning counselling for people who haven’t consented to it, but Bill C-4 goes further and also bans consenting adults from getting help.

This is a massive overstep into the personal liberties of Canadian citizens and infringes upon their spiritual lives. Bill C-4 is the Trudeau government’s attempt to push their own woke view of sexual morality on Canadians and suppress Christian sexual ethics, which is why it criminalizes attempts to reduce the sexual behaviour of people with same-sex attractions, yet it still allows attempts to increase the sexual behaviour of people with same-sex attraction.

Please sign this petition telling Minister of Justice David Lametti and Minister of Women and Gender Equality and Youth Marci Ien that you are opposed to Bill C-4.

Trudeau has stated that he wants this bill passed before Christmas, so this petition is quite urgent. So please also contact your MP and urge them to vote against Bill C-4.

Stop Bill C-4: Helping LGBT people who want help is not a crime!

Dear Minister David Lametti and Minister Marci Ien,

I am opposed to the federal government’s attempt to criminalize “conversion therapy” through Bill C-4.

It is wrong to deny consenting adults with unwanted sexual attractions or gender dysphoria the right to receive spiritual or psychological counsel. The government has no business telling people who want to experience change that they are not allowed to do so.

As well, due to the definition of conversion therapy in Bill C-4 being too broad, pastors and spiritual counsellors, as well as professionals could face up to five years of jail time for providing counselling and talk therapy to LGBT people in their community.

The government has no business infringing upon the spiritual lives of LGBT Canadians, and they certainly have no right to send pastors and spiritual counsellors to jail for helping LGBT Canadians to live chaste lives and overcome unwanted desires that they may have.

I urge you to speak against Bill C-4, and instead bring forward a bill that only criminalizes physically or psychologically abuse forms of conversion therapy.
