Teacher fired for calling a boy --a boy!
One of America’s core characteristics is freedom of religion. Since our founding, our nation has been committed to safeguarding and protecting the ability of all Americans to worship and honor God in the way that they see fit. At many points during our history, we have supported the rights of fringe religious groups to practice their religions because our nation has always been committed to that first freedom of religious expression.
However, today, more and more Americans of faith are seeing their religious liberty chipped away. In 21st century America, being a person who is committed to upholding what the Bible teaches can be reason for an employer to fire you or a city council to fine you.
Such is the case in Brownsburg, Indiana. John Kluge, a beloved music teacher at Brownsburg High School, was forced to either resign or be fired due to his Christian convictions about gender and sexuality.
Please sign this petition to Brownsburg High School and ask them to stop discriminating against teachers based on religion.
Here’s what happened. The school issued a policy requiring all teachers to refer to kids by their chosen names and pronouns as opposed to their given names and God-assigned genders.
For example, if Chelsea decided she wanted to be a boy named Charlie, all of her teachers would have to call her Charlie and refer to her as a male.
However, John (the teacher that was fired) is a man of deep religious conviction. He believes (like other Bible-affirming Christians) that gender is given by God and cannot be altered. As a result, he believes it would do harm to a child to encourage a destructive lifestyle such as transgenderism.
John didn’t make a snap decision. He carefully, and prayfully thought through the appropriate response.
“I really care about kids and I don’t want to do any harm to them. I was talking to my pastor about the scenario of calling a student by an opposite sex name and what harm I believe that would do to them. I remember breaking down and weeping at that scenario. I cannot in good conscience do what I believe will cause harm,” says John.
At the beginning of the school year, the school administrators told John that he could refer to students by their last names. However, in February of this year John was told that unless he started referring to students by the gender they wanted, he would be fired.
“They told me to start using the transgender students opposite sex names and if I was not willing to do that I would be terminated by May 1. The other option they gave me was to resign so I could get paid over the summer.”
In a very short amount of time, America has been completely transformed by the new wave of the sexual revolution. Twenty years ago, “gay marriage” was a hypothetical concept and hardly anyone had even heard about transgenderism. Back then, it was recognized for what it was—potentially harmful gender dysphoria. But today, gay marriage is normal and being “gender nonconforming” is celebrated as healthy and not the harmful mental disorder that it is.
The latest victims of the sexual revolution are children. Our culture has become obsessed with promoting this twisted and distorted view of sexuality and many are now using children to promote it.
John tried to protect his students from this insanity and was fired. Please stand with him and ask the Brownsburg Highschool to reinstate this beloved teacher.
