PRESIDENT RUTO: Withdraw your directive to lift GMOs in Kenya
The new president of Kenya his excellency William Ruto is now looking west for foreign aid evidently.
Kenya is a developing country and one of the important decisions a president has to make is on their foreign policy.
Foreign policy determines who to partner with in terms of loans and foreign aid and always this has its own consequences.
With president Ruto looking West unlike his predecessor, he has been forced to appease his new masters and this includes and is not limited to the lifting of Genetically Modified Organisms.
The president whose degrees centered on Botany and plant ecology knows very well the adverse effects of Genetically Modified Organisms but he would rather have this implemented to maintain his foreign policy with the West.
Scientists are still studying the field of GMOs as it is rather an intricate one and involves a lot of risks. Some risks associated with the consumption of GMOs include infertility, cancer, low immunity, allergies and antibacterial resistance.
Countries like the United States which have allowed the consumption of GMOs, they have well-laid regulations and structures to punish offenders as this is a field that can be easily taken advantage of .
Kenya is nowhere near the complex legal structures of the United States and all we will be doing by lifting GMOs is risking the health of Kenyans while pleasing the donors.
Kenya is a developing nation that has a lot of potentials, we have very hardworking farmers and this is where we should redirect our energies instead of importing death.
Sign the petition to ask the president of Kenya to withdraw his ill-advised lifting of the importation of GMOs with immediate effect and involve all stakeholders while making such decisions.

I write this to demand that you withdraw with immediate effect your directive to have Genetically Modified Organisms lifted in Kenya.
Studies have proven that GMOs consumption has negative side effects on human health which can not be ignored.
These side effects include cancer, infertility on consumers, reduced immunity, antibacterial resistance and even allergies.
GMOs consumption is an intricate and rather new phenomenon that is still under scientific study even in the most developed countries like the United States of America.
The United States has well-laid structures on the safety of GMOs considering the risk that they raise but there is none in Kenya yet neither is there an assurance it can be implemented.
It is only prudent that you withdraw this directive and involve all stakeholders before considering any lifting of the ban.
