For real Human Rights at the United Nations

The Secretary General of the United Nations has asked us how he can strengthen the defence of Human Rights. Write now and ask him to defend the right to life, family and the right of parents to educate their children.

The last United Nations General Assembly approved resolution A / RES / 74/151 (paragraph 12) where it suggests to the Secretary General that he consult with member states and NGOs on how he can strengthen work on human rights through international cooperation and under the principles of non-selection, impartiality and objectivity.

The Secretary General will collect all the proposals received before January 22 with the aim of presenting a report at the 70th General Assembly.

This is our opportunity to tell the United Nations what we think:

Defend the right to life. It is the first of the rights and is included both in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and in the Charter of Social and Political Rights.

Defend the family as the basic cell of society. This implies a transversal vision of both the policies and the legal framework to act with a family perspective. It also involves protecting marriages in crisis through mediation services. And not consider marriage to coexistence realities that do not guarantee generational change or the appropriate environment for socialization.

Defend freedom. The absence of measures against dictatorships such as Venezuela, which disturb human rights worryingly, and the passivity of the UN disappoint the expectations of citizens and trust in international institutions.

Recently, the United Nations has congratulated itself on the approval of abortion in Argentina. It is exactly the path that should not be taken: for an international institution to defend the violation of the highest of all rights is anything but to strengthen the defence of human rights and the most direct path to institutional discredit and citizen disaffection.

Proposals to strengthen human rights

Attention: the Secretary-General of the United Nations

I am writing to you in response to your request for ideas to strengthen the United Nations work on Human Rights, following resolution A / RES / 74/151 (paragraph 12) of the last General Assembly.

I note with concern that both the United Nations and its Population and Women's Agencies and the High Commissioner for Human Rights dedicate effort, energy and budget to promoting permissive legislation upholding the so-called "right" to abortion.

To eliminate an innocent human life is clearly to violate the highest human right: the right to life. Furthermore in doing so, it fails in providing appropriate support to a woman facing a difficult or unexpected pregnancy. The most dignified solution for a woman and for the life that she carries in her womb is social support to be able to move on. Abortion is not a worthy solution and its physical and psychological effects on women are very worrying.

I also observe with concern how the United Nations enthusiastically bets on so-called “sexual orientation and gender identity” and on so-called “comprehensive sexual education”. It is a homosexual agenda that - under the pretext of avoiding discrimination and homophobia - seeks indoctrination in gender ideology, the qualification of marriage for homosexual unions, gay adoption and the ‘change’ of registered sex.

Of course, we condemn violence and discrimination on the grounds of sexual condition, but ‘matrimonializing’ homosexual unions does not mean ‘extension of rights’ but rather devaluation of marriage, a pillar of the family which in turn is the basic cell of society.

On the other hand, indoctrinating our schoolchildren in gender ideology contravenes the right of parents to educate their children according to their principles and values; a right included in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

In addition, giving a child for adoption from a gay couple to fulfill their dream of parenthood contradicts the principle of adoption, which is none other than giving a father and a mother to whom they do not have, in the best interest of the child.

However, I cannot see an effort by the United Nations to promote policies and legislation with a family perspective, something essential if we assume that the family is the most valued social and human institution, social mattress, source of integration and care, school of solidarity and privileged place for socialization.

Finally, the fact that dictatorships such as Cuba or China are part of the United Nations Rights Council does not help the institution to play a more active role in defending freedoms in countries like Venezuela where human rights are systematically trampled on.

I hope that you will take all these views into account in the report that you will prepare for the 70th General Assembly.
