US Congress: Exclude Abortion Funding from 2022 Spending

U.S. Congress is getting really close to passing its spending bill for 2022 without including prohibitions on taxpayer-funded abortions. We need to support our representatives who stand by the Hyde Amendment, which forbids the U.S. government from using our tax dollars to kill babies in the womb.

The Health and Human Services, Education, and Related Agencies (LHHS) appropriations bill, which provides funding for 40 percent of federal agencies and programs, currently does not include the Hyde Amendment for the first time since the amendment’s implementation in 1976. The legislation has also removed the Weldon Amendment, which provides conscience protections for healthcare workers.

We must tell our representatives that including taxpayer-funded abortions in the appropriations bill is not appropriate, and it violates the trust of the American people in their federal government. U.S. Rep. Kay Granger, a pro-life Republican from Texas, is right in saying this spending bill is “out of step with the views of most Americans”.

A Marist survey shows that in January 2018, 64 percent of Americans opposed using tax dollars to pay for a woman’s abortion.

We must act now to convince our representatives to do whatever is necessary to prevent our money from being used to kill unborn babies. Congress will vote on the bill the week of July 26.

It’s up to us, the American people, to stop this appropriations bill from providing taxpayer-funded abortions. Contact your representative today and request that the Hyde Amendment and the Weldon Amendment be included in the LHHS appropriations bill. By signing the petition, you are letting the House know that you are deeply concerned about the 2022 spending bill.

The bipartisan Hyde Amendment that had been in place for decades is credited for saving 2.4 million babies from abortion, according to the Charlotte Lozier Institute

If this spending bill for the 2022 fiscal year passes in the House and Senate, there will be nothing preventing the funding of abortions in Medicaid and elective abortions will become more common.

Petition to: Speaker of the House, House Majority Leader, House Minority Leader

A growing number of Americans do not support the use of taxpayer’s money to fund abortions. The removal of the Hyde Amendment from our country’s 2022 spending bill is unacceptable. We the American people will not stand to be used in this way. We refuse to fund the killing of unborn babies. Those who have signed this petition are mobilizing to get this message across to people across the country. Those who support abortion may think that it’s a woman’s right to choose whatever she thinks is best for “her body”, and that the common American has no say in the matter. But we should have a say because abortion kills our neighbors, our classmates, our cousins, our nieces and nephews, our friends, and sometimes even our very own child or grandchild when the abortion is performed without the grandparents’ or father’s consent.

We will not let our tax dollars fund an action that takes away the unborn child’s God-given right to live. Where is our society headed if we think we can casually dispose of a life that is not wanted? We wholeheartedly request that you uphold your duty as a U.S. representative and protect the right to life. We must ensure that the Hyde Amendment and the Weldon Amendment are included in the federal government’s spending bill for the 2022 fiscal year. This is our nation, and we will do all we can to ensure that it is a nation that defends the life of the most innocent and vulnerable among us.
