Parents Must Act To Ensure Fairness and Safety In NJ School Sports
The New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association (NJSIAA) Executive Committee recently decided to update a policy so as to allow boys who think they are girls, and vice versa, to play on teams of the opposite sex - without proof (medical, or otherwise) of their gender dysphoria.
The updated policy states: "A transgender student, defined as a student whose gender identity differs from the student's sex assigned at birth, shall be eligible to participate in accordance with either their birth sex or in accordance with their gender identity, but not both."
This kind of denial of reality is what harms competition, and what can also lead to (God forbid) accidental injury or death.
Boys and girls are equal in dignity, but real, biological differences between the sexes cannot be denied for the sake of political correctness.
Males have a biological advantage over females in terms of muscle mass, lung capacity, and size. Even non-political sources, such as Psychology Today, acknowledge that:
"Men are physically stronger than women, who have, on average, less total muscle mass, both in absolute terms and relative to total body mass. . . . Men also have denser, stronger bones, tendons, and ligaments. . . . Men have greater cardiovascular reserve, with larger hearts, greater lung volume per body mass, a higher red blood cell count, and higher haemoglobin."
A test of strength between elite male and female athletes demonstrated that, "the very strongest female athletes are barely above the median of grip strength for men."
And, these very real biological differences do not disappear when a boy decides to declare himself a girl, or vice versa.
But, by pretending that such biological differences do disappear when a boy declares himself a girl, or vice versa, the NJSIAA is putting into jeopardy both the standard of competition in girls' sports, as well as, and, most critically, the safety of girls who participate in sports in New Jersey.
Unsuspecting girls will now be forced onto the same field, mat, diamond, or court as boys who think they are girls. And, some girls, who think they are boys, may seek to participate in boys' sports, such as football.
By allowing boys (who have a natural, anatomical advantage) to compete with girls, the NJSIAA is disregarding the extra effort which girls must put in, to achieve elite status in their chosen sport.
And, if, in the future, someone is accidentally injured or killed as a result of this wrong-headed policy, it is probable that the NJISAA will be sued for negligence. And, a future court will have to determine its responsibility in that injury or death.
It only takes a little common sense, therefore, to realize that this updated policy is dangerous, ethically (for the sake of fairness in competition), physically (for the sake of unsuspecting female participants), and legally (for the sake of the NJISAA, itself, which may be subject to future lawsuits as a result of this harmful policy).
Therefore, this petition asks the NJSIAA to rescind this updated policy with immediate effect.
Thank you for signing!
