Conservative African American Groups Rally behind Jack Phillips –We Got Your Back Jack!
Jack Phillips is a Christian baker in Colorado who has been fined, harassed and defamed for his Christian conviction. He creates magnificent cakes that can only accurately be described as works of art. He declined to create a cake for a gay wedding ceremony because, as a Christian, he believes that marriage is only between one man and one woman. He was found guilty of discrimination by the state court in Colorado. The Supreme Court is hearing his case in June.
Three highly prominent conservative Africa American Groups are speaking out in support of Philips.
The Frederick Douglass Foundation, the Center of Urban Renewal and Education (CURE) and the Radiance Foundation hosted a press conference this week outside the Supreme Court stating their support for Philips. They have also launched a website, WeGotYourBackJack.com to raise awareness about Philips and his Supreme Court case.
Join the effort of We Got Your Back Jack to stand up for the freedom of Jack Philips and all artists, to create in accordance with their religious beliefs!
Dean Nelson, the chairman and co-founder of the Frederick Douglass Foundation stated, "Wherever there is a person who is degraded, Frederick Douglass insisted that those people needed to be supported and to be advocated for. I think Jack's story is a powerful story of how a person who loves people can be twisted with a culture that has demeaned and castigated him.”
Jack Philips is a kind, compassionate Christian man. He would never refuse service to anyone regardless of their lifestyle. However –he did decline to create a cake for an event that he believed would dishonor God. Philips, believes that the Bible clearly teaches that marriage is a sacred, religious covenant made before God between a man and a woman and that homosexual sex is a sin. He in no way discriminated against anyone –he simply declined to celebrate a particular event.
This is simply religious expression –which is protected by the United States Constitution. It is unbelievable that we live in an age where Jack could be so strongly persecuted for his sincere religious convictions.
In the midst of such a difficult time, let’s stand behind Philips and support him. We should stand shoulder to shoulder with one another in order to resist the pressure to conform to an increasingly hostile and secular culture.
