OH Towns on Red Alert for Human Trafficking not far from Schools
Massage parlors and "spas" are popping up in places you would least expect...like, in the Westerville (OH) Square Shopping Center (complete with a Walmart Supercenter and a Smashburger and a PNC Bank). And, located only 7/10 of a mile from the local high school, and only 1.2 miles from the local elementary school.
Westerville is a nice suburb, just north of Columbus, where, like anywhere, parents are trying to raise their children in a safe environment.
The name of the new massage parlor - pending approval - would be, "Orchid Asian Spa".
Massage parlors and "spas" are oftentimes potential covers for the seedy, exploitative and illicit sex-trade.
These "Asian" parlors and "spas" - often tied to the dangerous Asian underworld - are, moreover, also potential covers for human trafficking, where young Asian women are taken from their home countries, against their will, and told that their families will be harmed if they do not prostitute themselves.
And, such existing parlors and "spas" - which are polar-opposites to legitimate health spas - are listed on gross "where fantasy meets reality" websites, touting "Erotic Massage..."
In addition to what is already being done (see the 'For More Information' links, below), this petition calls on the Mayor of Westerville, Mr. Craig Treneff - and, also, the Governor of the state of Ohio, Hon. John Kasich - to take further action in these cases.
And, to first take action on such "businesses" already operating within the city and within the state.
Specifically, this petition calls on the Mayor and the Governor to encourage, by new city ordinances or state laws, the revocation of business licenses to those parlors and "spas" which applied to do business as a legitimate health spa, but, which are essentially doing business as a brothel.
Having one state certified masseuse or masseur on staff - when, there are obviously more people "employed" - should certainly be a red flag, to local and state authorities. Another glaring red flag would be the presence of many undocumented, young women from other parts of the world.
Of course, this means that both city and state government (perhaps, with the help of Federal authorities) must heavily scrutinize, with police and zoning departments, these businesses.
Next, this petition also demands that: 1) the applicants for such businesses be thoroughly vetted for ties to the underworld, the mafia, etc., before being permitted to set-up shop in any Ohio town; 2) all masseuses/masseurs be legally-entitled to work in the US - and, provide proof for everyone working in the establishment; 3) all masseuses/masseurs be licensed by the state - and, provide proof for everyone working in the establishment; 4) the premises be open to frequent and unnannounced inspections; and, just in case malefactors are able to deceive city and state authorities on the preceding demands, 5) the premises be located outside a 2-mile-radius of any school, be it elementary, middle or high school.
We absolutely must ensure - to the extent possible - that human trafficking will not occur in our Ohio towns and cities.
Let's face it: so long as these businesses are permitted to operate as is, there will be many, many children hanging around the Walmart Supercenter in Westerville during warmer weather...along with potential johns.
Some johns are known to prey on children, and the human traffickers involved in this rotten "business" are not known for their scruples around exploitation, either.
So, let's ask that Westerville become a human-trafficking-free zone, and a model for the rest of the state of Ohio.
Let's also ask that the state of Ohio become a role model for the rest of the nation in its efforts to stamp out this sleezy "business," which is both criminal and community-destroying.
Thank you for signing this petition!
PS - For those of you who live in the Columbus area, the Westerville City Council will next meet on Tuesday, February 6, at 7:00 p.m. at Westerville City Hall (21 S. State St). A dedicated time for Citizen’s Comments is on each meeting agenda. Please go along and make your opposition to human trafficking heard.
