Tell Netflix to remove Cuties for sexualizing children
Netflix has gone too far.
Having already released movies within the last year that glorified blasphemy (The First Temptation of Christ) and sexual violence (365 Days), Netflix has now reached a new low: sexualizing 11-year-old children. Netflix has announced that on September 9th, they will be releasing the French movie Cuties. The synopsis Netflix originally made for it (before they changed it due to backlash) was "Amy, 11, becomes fascinated with a twerking dance crew. Hoping to join them, she starts to explore her femininity, defying her family’s traditions."
It is clear from all the marketing and advertisements for Cuties that it is a movie that revolves around the sexualization of children. Even if Cuties ends up having enough self-awareness to be a critique of how children are often sexualized in our culture, it won’t change the fact that the movie will be sexualizing children to promote this message.
Additionally, because of the massive reach Netflix has, it is unavoidable that by releasing Cuties on Netflix it will be accessible to pedophiles.
The release of Cuties to Netflix also contributes to the normalization of child sexualization in the media. With the reach Netflix has, they have a social responsibility to ensure that the material they distribute does not contain themes that are grossly detrimental to the well-being of society. Signing this petition will help urge Netflix to stop neglecting that responsibility.
Sign the petition to tell Netflix CEO Reed Hastings to put a stop to their plans to release Cuties on Netflix.
