Tell the DC metro, Christmas is a Christian holiday!

According to the Pew Research Center, 92 percent of all Americans celebrate Christian. That’s a staggering number. The holiday season is impossible to miss. Starbucks rolls out new festive cups, babies and daddies everywhere start wearing Santa hats and nearly every door in the neighborhood is graced with a pine wreath.

This celebration is a very good thing. We should have a huge party to celebrate the fact that the King of Kings and Lord or Lord stepped down into creation in the form of a tiny baby to bridge the chasm between heave and earth. He truly is the greatest gift.

However, the DC metro recently refused to run a Christmas advertisement from the Archdiocese of Washington because the advertisement depicted the nativity scene and had a link to a website listing mass service times. Please sign this petition to the DC metro voicing your frustration at their discrimination against this lovely Christmas ad simply because it was a Christian Christmas ad.

Here’s what happened. The Archdiocese of Washington submitted an advertisement but the metro said they couldn’t run the advertisement because it was religious. But Christmas is an inherently religious holiday. What does the metro think Christmas is about? Even if some will argue that modern Christmas celebrations are about Santa and trees, no one will deny that Christmas is a Christian holiday intended to celebrate the birth of our savior.

The advertisement simply would have said, “Find the Perfect Gift” with a nativity scene and then would have directed viewers to a website where they could find a service to attend. This is not a controversial advertisement –it’s a seasonal holiday advertisement for Christmas services.

In a culture that has grown increasingly hostile to Christianity, Christmas is still a time where Christians shouldn’t be afraid to be Christians.

Please sign this petition to the DC metro wishing them a Merry Christmas and asking them in the future not to discriminate against Christmas advertisements for having Christian content. After all, Jesus is the reason for the season.

Christmas is a Christian Holiday

Dear DC Metro,

You recently refused to run a Christmas advertisement from the Archdiocese of Washington because the advertisement depicted the nativity scene and had a link to a website listing mass service times.

I am frustrated that you discriminated against this lovely Christmas ad simply because it was a Christian Christmas ad.

You said you couldn’t run the advertisement because it was religious. But Christmas is an inherently religious holiday. The advertisement simply would have said, “Find the Perfect Gift” with a nativity scene and then would have directed viewers to a website where they could find a service to attend. This is not a controversial advertisement –it’s a seasonal holiday advertisement for Christmas services.

In the future, please do not to discriminate against Christmas advertisements for having Christian content. After all, Jesus is the reason for the season.

Merry Christmas!
