VOTE "NO" on Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Administrator Position (Great Land of Lincoln Declaration)
THE GREAT LAND OF LINCOLN DECLARATION
As similarly set forth in our founding document, the Declaration of Independence, when in the Course of human events, it becomes necessary for one people to not dissolve, but to resolve, the political bands which have connected them with one another, and to assume among the powers of the earth, the separate and equal station to which the Laws of Nature and Nature’s God entitle them, a decent respect to the opinions of mankind requires that they should declare the causes which impel them to the resolution: the fundamental disintegration of the value system the foundational political bands were built upon.
We, the undersigned, and faithful residents of the County of Lake, and State of Illinois, and as proclaimed by the Sixteenth President of these United States, Abraham Lincoln, hereby canonize the Lincolnian axiom that education is the most important subject which we as a people may be engaged in because the philosophy of the school room in one generation will be the philosophy of government in the next.
We have been informed that a controversial academic discipline known as “Critical Race Theory” (“CRT”) has been integrated as an institutional orthodoxy, into all aspects of the College of Lake County (“CLC”), a higher education institution, the only higher education institution in Lake County, funded and paid for by the very residents making this Declaration.
We understand that the core tenets of CRT center on “social justice”, “diversity and inclusion”, “equity”, “culturally responsive teaching” and other parallel euphemisms. We understand that these words and phrases are employed as pathways to introduce and implement CRT into our impressionable children’s classrooms, hearts, and minds. The undersigned find that CRT seeks to divide our students, faculty, and communities into a hierarchical structure premised on identity-based dialectics in which the oppressed, derived from race, gender, class, religious, age, or sexual identity, must rise up to overcome their oppressors—everyone else. The natural consequence of which is the establishment of a perpetual victim class with the misguided and unassailable moral authority to dehumanize anyone who opposes CRT as a “racist”, a “bigot” or worse, sowing division and hatred in or classrooms, communities, and homes, through the denunciation of equality and paradoxical promotion of equity-based racism. Within the confines of this carefully crafted construct, CLC is asking its faculty, students, and community members to reject the ubiquitous principles of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr, who asked us to judge a person by the content of their character, not by the color of their skin—a principal derived not from our immutable characteristics, but from a shared heritage founded on truth, freedom, justice, and equality enshrined in our founding documents.
WHEREAS, CLC has adopted, as one of its “Six Pillars” of its strategic plan, “Equity & Inclusion.”
WHEREAS, CLC has approved CRT paid sabbatical requests, including a paid sabbatical request to create CRT activists.
WHEREAS, CLC has fostered an educational atmosphere alienating individual faculty members, students, and community members who do not support the principles upon which CRT is built.
WHEREAS, CLC has proposed, as part of its 2021 Budget Proposal, to hire, at the cost of the undersigned, a Diversity Equity and Inclusion (“DEI”) Administrator.
WHEREAS, CLC has proposed an annual six-figure salary for the DEI Administrator, who will also be entitled to all of the other contractually mandated employee benefits.
WHEREAS, CLC has proposed the DEI Administrator will be primarily responsible for ensuring that CLC is more “diverse, equitable, and inclusive” at the expense and exclusion of everyone who does not champion the CRT cause.
WHEREFORE, we the undersigned demand that the College of Lake County cease and desist the implementation of CRT, including the proposed hiring of the new DEI Administrator. We declare that the DEI Administrator proposal is both financial wasteful as it seeks to promote a belief system that has heretofore unequivocally manifested in all facets of the College of Lake County, and more importantly, because it represents a continued rejection of our axiomatic foundational truths—the truths we still hold to be self-evident, that all men and women are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. We find that in order for Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness to flourish, and for our fragile Constitutional Republic to endure, a just, equal, and unbiased merit-based educational system built upon freedom, equality, and justice is essential.
It has been said that we are presently as divided as we have ever been since the time of the Civil War. The perilousness of this moment is not lost upon us. We, the undersigned, therefore, make this Declaration to secure our future, and the future of our children, and their children so that the greatest human experiment ever undertaken, the government for the People, and by the People, does not perish from this earth.
