We can all agree anonymously to the fact that, many unhealthy behaviors often begin during adolescence and represent major public health challenges. Substance abuse has a major impact on individuals, families, and communities, as its effects are cumulative, contributing to costly social, physical, and mental health problems. Nakuru Drop-In Center CBO conducted an overview of systematic review in Nakuru County to evaluate the effectiveness of interventions to prevent substance abuse and found that among Substance Use Disorders interventions, community-based prevention programs and family-based intensive interventions typically addressing family functioning are effective in reducing substance abuse. Integrated Media Advocacy and Campaigns are also effective once incorporated and allocated reasonable intensity over extensive periods of time.

Nakuru Drop-In Center - NDIC is a certified Non-profit and Interfaith Community Based Organization - CBO Reg. No. 34951 in the Republic of Kenya, aligned to NACADA - National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse, KNCHR - Kenya National Commission on Human Rights, WFAD - World Federation Against Drugs, VNGOC - Vienna NGO Committee, and UNODC - United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime.

DEMSEL PEER Project is a series of activities and programs to be conducted in 36 months with a rollout plan of 12 months to all the 47 counties in Republic of Kenya, creating awareness, education, sensitization with PEER group support therapeutic treatment and life-time care for Persons Who Use Drugs, and their dependents. The effectiveness of the project’s potential interventions is to improve the mental health and overall well-being of citizens and residents, of Kenya. The project has been developed on a universal framework based on existing universal frameworks and trainings and, deliberations with the global experts in the field of Mental Health, based on the Drug Advisory Program – DAP of the Colombo Plan - International Certified Addiction Professionals – ICAP recommendations; NDIC – CBO again has identified various other external sets of interventions to be incorporated in six [6] phases of implementation processes. These external interventions have been chosen from the CBO’s existing community volunteer work on the basis of proven and potential effectiveness to improve the DEMSEL PEER Project’s outcomes and access to all the county’s primary health care and services for Persons Who Use Drugs - PWUDs.

To conclude please, we have innovated and designed a professional Concept Note’s intervention targeting Persons Who Use Drugs, nation-wide, on a community-family-based primary prevention, treatment, recovery and care specialized DEMSEL PEER Project. Kindly reach us out on the below contacts to enable us share the concept for deliberation and implementation.
