KEEP ABORTION OUT OF UN DEVELOPMENT GOALS
Killing innocent children in the womb should not be a a part of global development policies.
In 2015 the United Nations system will decide how billions of dollars will be spent to eradicate poverty, improve health and education, and help poor countries develop economically. Negotiations are underway to decide what policies find their way into the post-2015 development agenda. This development agenda will guide global and national policies for decades.
Abortion groups already receive billions of dollars from governments, private foundations and UN agencies with the pretext of providing “sexual and reproductive health and services” and “reproductive rights” — often code words for abortion. They want to get even more money by including these policies in the post-2015 development agenda.
These groups should not be given any more of our taxes. They present false information about abortion through education, training, and advocacy. They say that making abortion legal will solve the problem of maternal deaths. This is false!
Legal abortion does not reduce maternal mortality. In fact, abortion does nothing to solve the underlying causes of maternal mortality, which include bleeding, infection, high blood pressure, and other pregnancy and childbirth complications.
Effective policies to address maternal mortality and morbidity, as well as complications from abortions, are well known: water and sanitation, women’s education, better pre and post natal care, skilled birth attendants, better health care infrastructure, access to medicines, transportation, and birthing facilities.
Countries like Chile and Ireland that prohibit abortion are regional and global leaders in preventing maternal mortality and morbidity because they have adopted those policies.
