Almost four months ago, the first of 11 undercover videos exposing Planned Parenthood’s practice of illegally selling fetal tissue for profit was released. No one could have predicted how the landscape of the abortion movement would change since then.

David Daleiden, founder of the Center of Medical Progress (CMP), courageously went undercover with a group of citizen journalists for 30 months in an effort to hold Planned Parenthood accountable for the way they misuse taxpayer funding to run their late-term abortion, partial-birth abortion, and baby body parts businesses. As a result of his efforts, five distinct Congressional committees are investigating Planned Parenthood. There have also been investigations into, and efforts to defund Planned Parenthood, by up to 12 different states. Planned Parenthood has halted its practice of selling baby body parts, but two lawsuits have been brought against Daleiden personally.

Due to the highly damaging nature of these videos, StemExpress, a broker that sells harvested fetal tissue, launched a legal attack against Mr. Daleiden by filing a lawsuit. It claimed he recorded allegedly “private” conversations even though they occurred in a public restaurant during the dinner hour. In addition, the National Abortion Federation filed a lawsuit trying to discredit Daleiden’s heroic efforts, halt his ability to release his content, and potentially prosecute him for using a fake ID in his investigative reporting efforts.

Critics are aggressively working to derail Daleiden’s evidence by claiming the tapes are heavily edited and distorted. But two analyses of the raw video and audio, one from a forensic laboratory, found the videos to be legitimate.

The sale or purchase of human fetal tissue is a federal felony punishable by up to 10 years in prison and a fine of up to $500,000 (42 U.S.C. 289g-2). StemExpress and the National Abortion Federation are scrambling to divert the focus off their participation in the selling and harvesting of baby body parts and punish Mr. Daleiden for publishing his videos. To do this they are looking for legal loopholes and trying to tie him up in court.

If the courts rule against David Daleiden, this could set a terrible precedent – it will tell investigative journalists everywhere not to look into corrupt practices like the selling of aborted baby body parts or they will be punished. This pro-life journalist should not have to choose between exposing the abortion industry and sacrificing his livelihood.
