Cardinal Reinhard Marx stated at a conference in Ireland. “The history of homosexuals in our societies is very bad because we’ve done a lot to marginalise [them]. As church and society “we’ve also to say ‘sorry, sorry’.” And he said, “you cannot say that a relationship between a man and a man and they are faithful [that] that is nothing, that has no worth.”

Cardinal Marx’s obsession with homosexuality has gone on long enough.

Cardinal Marx and his friends hijacked the Synods on the Family. Other bishops wanted to talk about the pressures married couples face around the world, including extreme poverty, requiring the family to be separated from each other, and in some countries, polygamy and the sex trafficking of their children. Cardinal Marx and his friends wanted to talk about homosexuality, and communion for the divorced, quintessentially First World Problems.

He presides over the German Catholic Church, which performs more burials than baptisms. Why should anyone who wishes for the health of the Body of Christ look to him for guidance and leadership?

No, Cardinal Marx. The Catholic Church is among the last major institutions on earth telling the whole truth about homosexuality:

  • Homosexual acts do not bring lasting happiness.
  • The desire to perform homosexual acts does not define a person.
  • “Faithfulness” does not sanctify a same sex relationship. Jesus does not want two men to have sex only with each other. He wants the same sex activity to stop immediately.
  • Faithfulness,” for many male couples, does not mean sexual exclusivity.
  • All persons, including those with homosexual tendencies, should be treated with “respect, compassion and sensitivity.”

No, Cardinal Marx should apologize to us, the Christian faithful. We have been scandalized and misled and offended long enough.

The Church does not owe an apology

ADDRESSED TO: His Eminence, Cardinal Reinhard Marx, Archbishop of Munich and Freising
Palais Holnstein, Munich, Federal Republic of Germany

Your Eminence,

With all due respect to your office, we disagree with your recent statement that the Catholic Church should apologize to homosexuals. We believe this statement is untrue, and unworthy of your office.

The Body of Christ has many pressing problems, besides dealing with homosexuality. Indeed, at the Synod on the Family, prelates from around the world wanted to discuss many pressures married couples face around the world, including extreme poverty, requiring the family to be separated from each other, and in some countries, polygamy and the sex trafficking of their children.

We ask that you apologize to us, the Catholic faithful, the faithful of all Christian denominations, and all people of good will around the world, whom you have scandalized.
