We Demand SAFE WIFI!
We Demand SAFE WIFI!
UPDATE-11/19/2018:
Public Wi-Fi hotspots are attracting pedophiles and sex offenders to Starbucks - a comfortable place where we bring our children and teens and where illegal p*rnography is easily accessed, anonymously!
According to federal officers, open Wi-Fi - like that at Starbucks and other companies - is increasingly being used to view illegal p*rnography and child p*rnography and to foster the sexual exploitation and predation of children - serious criminal felonies that emanate from the anonymity offered by open Wi-Fi.
Without filtering to block online p*rnography and child p*rnography, these stores where so many families like yours and mine frequent, are subject to this toxic illegal content. Prosecutable p*rn is readily available in every Starbucks in America, THIS MUST END!!
To combat this growing trend and to protect our children, you and I need to pressure companies like Starbucks to implement filtering that blocks hard-core p*rnography and child p*rnography on their public Wi-Fi networks.
As you may recall, in 2014, Enough Is Enough launched its "National P*rn-Free Wi-Fi campaign, aimed at McDonald's and Starbucks. Letters were sent to each of the CEOs, including Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz, urging them to adopt filtered Wi-Fi in all of their venues. McDonald's responded rapidly and positively. In the first quarter of 2016, McDonald’s began to implement their new filtered WiFi policy in their corporate-owned restaurants in the U.S., and made the same service available to their franchisees. While McDonald's wasn't aware of any pornography related incidents in their stores, their move to offer filtered WiFi is clearly one more major step in the right direction. The bottom line - the majority of McDonald’s 14,000 restaurants now offer safer WiFi access for their patrons. To date, Starbucks has remained unresponsive. So, it's high time that we turn up the heat!
Of note, Starbucks has already voluntarily agreed to filter their public Wi-Fi services in the United Kingdom and Australia. According to the British Prime Minister, "Starbucks, McDonald's and other High Street retailers already comply with a ‘no p*rn via Wi-Fi’ policy and more would be likely to come into line as awareness of the issues grows." In addition, Starbucks shows industry leadership in Britain’s Internet safety efforts via its participation in the “Friendly WiFi” filtering program. As stated on their website, “Our WiFi is approved under the Friendly WiFi scheme. Wherever you see the ‘Friendly WiFi’ logo, this means the public WiFi service at the venue is filtered...”
If Starbucks protects children and families in other nations, then why won't they protect our children here in America - where they are headquartered? We're not asking for something that they haven't already done elsewhere! This is about corporate responsibility here at home! If McDonald’s, Chick-fil-A and Panera Bread have implemented filtering to block p*rnography and child p*rnography on their Wi-Fi access here in the U.S,. then so can Starbucks!
That's why we've re-launched our P*rn Free WiFi Campaign - initially aimed directly at Starbucks. With your help, last time together we garnered nearly 50,000 petitions, which resulted in the McDonald's implementing P*rn-Free Wi-Fi, and we commend them for it. You have the opportunity - right now, right here - to bring enormous pressure on Starbucks to follow McDonald's lead in providing Filtered Wi-Fi. We're asking that you take the following steps - they don't require any effort beyond taking online action. Would you please:
- Sign our P*rn Free WiFi petition to the CEO and members of the Board of Directors of Starbucks.
- Forward this e-mail to 10 people. Encourage your friends and family members to participate in this campaign.
- "Like" our page on Facebook and follow us on Twitter. And share our content when you do!
- Thank McDonald's for their corporate leadership in implementing their new filtered WiFi policy in their corporate-owned restaurants in the U.S. and making the same service available to their franchisees. The majority of McDonald’s 14,000 restaurants now offer safer WiFi access for their patrons.
Together, we can get Starbucks to lead the way to protect children by ending public Wi-Fi safe havens for sexual predators and to prevent children from seeing things they should never have to see. Thank you for joining the fight!!
