North Ayrshire Council Promotes Transsexualism to Children As Young as Five And Undermines the Rights of Parents

As part of Scotland’s Named Person (NP) scheme, each council in Scotland will have to produce a Children’s Services Plan. As such, North Ayrshire have released a document entitled Getting It Right For You (GIRFY) in which it promotes transgender ideology to children as young as five.

The NP scheme is dangerous and ill thought out, but has been made even more so with the release of North Ayrshire’s Children’s Services Plan. GIRFY is a 78-page guidebook which informs children from as young as five that their upbringing is a “shared journey” between them, their parents and their Named Person, and introduces these children to transgender ideology.

The NP scheme undermines the role of parents and GIRFY gives us an indication of the ideology being promoted with the NP scheme.

Background. The Named Person scheme, to be launched in Scotland at the end of August, assigns a state official tasked with looking after the well-being of every child in Scotland. The idea of a state guardian was introduced to ensure that every child gets the support they need and to prevent cases of abuse and neglect.

However, whatever the good intentions of this scheme, it has rightly been criticised for being overly intrusive into family life and undermining the rights of parents. For example, one father in Scotland, Andrew Smith, found the minutiae of his family life recorded without his consent. The NP noted such things as nappy rash and the youngest child having a “depressed mood”.

Andrew said: “I have provided them with independent accounts that show that some of those statements are false, but they refuse to enter them. So the impression is that they are trying to build a case against me.”

Many are concerned that this will be used against parents when the state decides that the parents are not teaching their children the “correct” worldview.

We have seen how intrusive and dangerous the NP scheme might be, but just how dangerous it is, is made concrete by the document (GIRFY) released by North Ayrshire council. If the Named Person can find fault with nappy rashes and a child having a “depressed mood”, surely they will be able to find fault with the parents who reject transgender ideology. If a case could be made against Andrew Smith, how much easier will it be to make a case against a parent who rejects transgender ideology?

The document says: “It takes time to figure out who we are sexually and to understand our gender identity… The important thing is to be true to how you feel at the time and to respect yourself and others around you.”

The question is: what happens to the parents who do not accept this ideology?

What happens if a Named Person accepts this ideology and recommends that a child confused about his/her gender begin to transition and a parent objects? It is easy enough to manufacture a case against any parent, and we would surely be naïve to think that it could not happen here.

We should reject this Children’s Services Plan and should resist the Named Person scheme which has the power to implement it.

North Ayrshire Must Guarantee the Rights of Parents to Raise Their Own Children

For the attention of Willie Gibson, Chair of North Ayrshire Community Planning Partnership and John Butcher, Chair of North Ayrshire Children’s Services Strategic Partnership

Dear Mr Gibson and Mr Butcher,

I am deeply concerned about North Ayrshire’s Children’s Services Plan, Getting it Right For You. As you are aware, this document forms part of the Named Person scheme introduced by the Scottish Government coming into effect at the end of August.

This document makes clear just how intrusive the Named Person scheme could be.

For example, the document makes a startling claim about gender: “It takes time to figure out who we are sexually and to understand our gender identity…

This apparently implies the wholesale adoption of the transgender ideology and makes the equally amazing claim that “[t]he important thing is to be true to how you feel at the time…” The document is encouraging children to adopt these views. The document apparently even endorses anti-social behaviour: “Adolescence can be a time of risk-taking and rule-breaking. These are normal teenage behaviours.”

What happens to parents who do not accept this worldview? If a parent has a child who is confused about their gender but wants the family to remain true to their faith for example, rather than how the child happens to feel at any given moment: will a Named Person be entitled to intervene on behalf of the child?

The worldview in this document cannot be used to penalise parents who do not agree with or promote the ideology espoused within it within their own families.

I ask that you to offer some guarantee that when this document creates conflicts within a family the rights of parents as primary educators of their children will be respected.

Sincerely,
[Your Name]
