Tell Malta's PM that Legalising "Same-sex Marriage" Will Threaten Children and the Natural Family
The Maltese Labour Party was re-elected on 3rd June this year, after a snap election, called by Prime Minister Joseph Muscat, who was apparently seeking to fend off allegations of corruption against his wife and some other political allies.
Mr Muscat's calculation paid off, as the Labour Party won a majority of seats in the Maltese Parliament, and gained a renewed mandate for his Government’s manifesto.
During the election, the issue of homosexual “marriage” was thrown into the mix of issues under scrutiny. And, despite homosexuals already being able to avail of so-called “same-sex unions” in Malta, the Government pledged to legislate for "same-sex marriage” if they won the election.
But, of course, this is a myopic and incredibly cynical approach to politics, putting vote-getting above the common good.
The Government's claim was, and is, that it simply wants to change one word – from “union” to “marriage”. But, anyone who has followed the recent, aggressive progression of the LGBT agenda, by homosexual activists, knows that there is nothing simple about the Government’s plan.
The fact that such a change will principally impact on the natural family and on children – and, their perception of the world, their innocence, and on their real, day-to-day existence – should be the overarching consideration for any society and any Government.
But, by rushing to give the same status and privilege of marriage to so-called “same-sex marriage”, the Maltese Government will be diminishing the most stable and best environment for children – ironically, the people who will suffer the most because of the passage of such legislation.
Why should this be the case? Because, as in other jurisdictions, where "same-sex marriage” has become law, the Maltese Government will, hereafter, be illogically prohibited from giving preference to the best environment (i.e., the natural family) – and, must, give equal preference to both homosexual “marriage” and natural marriage.
This is an ideological consideration in which the desire by homosexual adults to have children takes precedence over the best interests of those children. Indeed, reputable and large studies have shown that children raised in homosexual households fare worse in reported outcomes than children raised in opposite-sex households.
The bottomline is that children do best in a stable household within the context of marriage between a man and a woman.
Additionally, the promotion of same-sex “marriage” by the state, in Malta, will likely have three additional negative outcomes: 1) Henceforward, as in other jurisdictions, schoolchildren will likely be taught that there is no difference between family types – so that, having a mommy and a daddy is the same as having two mommies or two daddies; 2) It will likely become easier to censor religious teaching on issues of sexual ethics, particularly where homosexual acts and union are concerned; and, 3) If not already countenanced by the new proposals of the Maltese Government, or allowed under other legislation, eventually homosexual couples will be able to adopt children, and, or undergo IVF (and, avail of surrogacy), at taxpayer expense, in the pursuit of having children (at any cost).
For these reasons, this petition demands that the Maltese Government put the interests of children and society ahead of the interests of adults. And, as such, it demands that the Government cease and desist in its plan to legalise "same-sex marriage”.
The job of Government is not to pander to every small interest group, even those who have a lot of money (and, currently) a lot of media influence on their side. The job of Government is, rather, to defend the common good against detrimental influences of interest groups, both large and small.
Thank you for signing this petition, which calls on the Maltese Government to protect children and the family by keeping marriage – with the attendant protections afforded by the state – between one man and one woman.
