Massive Opportunity in Poland to Affect Pro-Life World - Support Polish MPs and Senators

The "Stop Abortion" citizens' initiative - which sought to comprehensively protect human life from conception - was rejected by the Polish Parliament in its second reading, which unexpectedly took place, today, on 6 October. The reason for this vote, however, was the sudden meeting of the parliamentary Committee on Justice and Human Rights, which took place only yesterday (5/10).

The suddenness of its meeting has raised many doubts as to the manner of conducting the debate on this draft legislation; this also includes the fact that the representatives of the initiative were not informed in a timely manner about the meeting of the Committee, and, extraordinarily, they were not given a voice in the proceedings.

Today, as many as 352 MPs voted to reject the initiative. And, only 32 MPs supported it; those Members merit special thanks.

BUT, the Parliamentary Committee also received another initiative which proposes the introduction of the full protection of human life, from the moment of conception. So, in effect, the Polish Parliament has been given a second chance to vote to protect human life.

Details of the new citizens' initiative, called the "We Love Each Child" initiative, can be found, here: http://kochamykazdedziecko.pl/

In this special petition, we ask the Polish Prime Minister, as well as all MPs and Senators to quickly adopt, in law, this initiative.

This initiative is not only important for Poland, but for the whole of Europe (and, beyond)!

---

It is worth noting that the current law in Poland - contrary to the myth propagated by the media - is not a "compromise" from 1993. In fact, this law has already been changed once during the Democratic Left Alliance (SLD) administration in 1996. At that time, abortion on the grounds of so-called "social reasons" was introduced. This amendment, however, was recognized by the Constitutional Court as unconstitutional.

Unfortunately, the other amendments made by the SLD in 1996 worsened the legal protections for life which had, indeed, been established in 1993.

Those protections gave every child the right to life from conception and prohibited abortion, excluding criminality in three cases only. The Act of 1996, on the other hand, very nearly formulates a "right" to abortion.

The new "We Love Each Child" initiative will give back life to those currently excluded from protection.

You have a second chance to save many lives!

For the Kind Attention of the Prime Minister of Poland, Polish MPs and Polish Senators, especially in the Law and Justice Party -

Dear Sir or Madam:

It is with disappointment that I accept the majority vote of your party's Members in connection with the "Stop Abortion" citizens' initiative. At the same time, I ask for just, fair and prompt proceedings dealing with the other pro-life initiative which has been tabled in the Polish Parliament, called "We Love Each Child".

This initiative is not only important for Poland, but for the whole of Europe (and, beyond)!

And, this initiative, like the "Stop Abortion" initiative, was filed by citizens through the proper committee. Therefore, it now deserves special attention, as it also proposes the introduction of full protection of human life from the moment of conception.

Appreciating the announcement the Polish Prime Minister (Mrs. Beata Szydło) on the Polish Government's action to improve the situation of families with sick and disabled children, I want to draw your attention to the fact that such action is not sufficient to reduce the incidence of abortion. In Germany, where state aid is well developed, 90% of children who are diagnosed with Down syndrome are killed by abortion.

In fact, in 2015, 1,040 children were legally aborted in Poland, of which 996 were killed due to suspicion of disease or disability.

Without changes to the law, these children will continue to die.

And, a change of the law which only eliminates the possibility of killing children with Down syndrome will also be insufficient, as many other children are also routinely aborted for so-called "eugenic indications". Allowing children to live because of a subjective consideration of "quality of life" is, in reality, inhumane.

Therefore, only the complete elimination of the legalisation of abortion on eugenic grounds can avoid such blatant discrimination.

It is worth noting that, because prenatal diagnosis is subject to a considerable margin of error, allowing abortion on suspicion of illness or disability, also causes healthy children to be killed.

The "We love each child" initiative provides full protection of life, and yet, does not punish mothers who seek abortion - which was the main objection raised by the State against the "Stop Abortion" initiative.

Now, therefore, it is time to put into practice your many declarations on behalf of the protection of life. It was your expression of support which succeeded in bringing about the rapid adoption of this draft.

Both for Poland, and for the wider world, we hope that you - the Leader and the Members of the Law and Justice Party - will now save many lives by supporting the "We Love Each Child" initiative.
