Massive Opportunity in Poland to Affect Pro-Life World - Support Polish MPs and Senators
The "Stop Abortion" citizens' initiative - which sought to comprehensively protect human life from conception - was rejected by the Polish Parliament in its second reading, which unexpectedly took place, today, on 6 October. The reason for this vote, however, was the sudden meeting of the parliamentary Committee on Justice and Human Rights, which took place only yesterday (5/10).
The suddenness of its meeting has raised many doubts as to the manner of conducting the debate on this draft legislation; this also includes the fact that the representatives of the initiative were not informed in a timely manner about the meeting of the Committee, and, extraordinarily, they were not given a voice in the proceedings.
Today, as many as 352 MPs voted to reject the initiative. And, only 32 MPs supported it; those Members merit special thanks.
BUT, the Parliamentary Committee also received another initiative which proposes the introduction of the full protection of human life, from the moment of conception. So, in effect, the Polish Parliament has been given a second chance to vote to protect human life.
Details of the new citizens' initiative, called the "We Love Each Child" initiative, can be found, here: http://kochamykazdedziecko.pl/
In this special petition, we ask the Polish Prime Minister, as well as all MPs and Senators to quickly adopt, in law, this initiative.
This initiative is not only important for Poland, but for the whole of Europe (and, beyond)!
It is worth noting that the current law in Poland - contrary to the myth propagated by the media - is not a "compromise" from 1993. In fact, this law has already been changed once during the Democratic Left Alliance (SLD) administration in 1996. At that time, abortion on the grounds of so-called "social reasons" was introduced. This amendment, however, was recognized by the Constitutional Court as unconstitutional.
Unfortunately, the other amendments made by the SLD in 1996 worsened the legal protections for life which had, indeed, been established in 1993.
Those protections gave every child the right to life from conception and prohibited abortion, excluding criminality in three cases only. The Act of 1996, on the other hand, very nearly formulates a "right" to abortion.
The new "We Love Each Child" initiative will give back life to those currently excluded from protection.
