Thank the Governor! Late-term abortion banned in Kentucky!
Last week, Kentucky Governor Matt Bevin signed legislation into law that prohibits abortions in the state of Kentucky after 20 weeks and requires women to receive an ultrasound prior to receiving an abortion. This is a critically important step towards further protecting the lives of the unborn in Kentucky.
Please join with me in thanking the Governor for his support of life! Through this new legislation, women will be better informed and more babies will be protected during pregnancy.
This life-giving legislation includes two separate bills: the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act (SB 5) and the Ultrasound Informed Consent Act (HB 2). SB 5 will ban abortions after 20 weeks. The scientific community agrees that after 20 weeks (and may even sooner!), unborn babies can feel pain. As a result of this scientific evidence, 16 other states have passed similar legislation to prevent abortion after a baby can certainly feel excruciating pain.
HB 2 requires a woman seeking an abortion to first receive an ultrasound where she can see the life inside her and hear the heart beat of her baby.
Both of these bills passed the House and the Senate with strong bipartisan support.
“This is truly a new day in Kentucky, as our General Assembly has worked in an unprecedented manner to advance the people’s business,” said Governor Bevin. “It is an honor for me to sign into law these historic pieces of legislation that protect our most vulnerable.”
Tragically, not all lawmakers feel this way. Some in our culture are fighting to expand abortion and find no problem with killing babies and then selling their organs, brains, and limbs.
We must remember that every abortion ends a human life that is made in the image of God. There is sanctity in each and every human life, and we must fight on all fronts to protect unborn children.
Please join me in thanking the Governor for being a force for life and dignity in Kentucky. We need to applaud his courage and encourage other lawmakers to follow his lead.
