Petition to: partial and conventional dentures explaned

Internet is everywhere, we are all connected, we can schedule our work-out with the help of tons of smartphone application but there are still people that cannot chew their meal because the lack of teeth in their mouths. Can you image that ? incredible but true !

Our society is so busy doing useless staff that we forget there are a lot of people that are living like ghost; we cannot see them or we don’t want to see them.

Dentists are not cheap, this is something we all know but our system makes staff even harder for those that are on budget, retired or have a low income. They cannot go to the dentist and get their teeth cleaned or treated so they lose all your natural teeth because of caries or severe periodontal disease like periodontitis. In addition they don’t’ have enough money to get simple conventional dentures because of the cost of such prosthetic devices.

what are the types of dentures those people need ?

Full removable dentures

it is that type of dental prostheses that replaces a full dental arch (lower, upper arch or even both) and can be removed from the mouth for cleaning purpose. Usually those dentures are made of an acrylic base that simulates the natural gingiva. The flange or false gingiva relay on the soft tissue of the patient. On top that base there are the fake teeth that can be made of resin, multy-layered resin, ceramic or even zirconia that is the most aesthetic material but also the most expensive.

Full dentures are cheap to develop and can help on budget people to get a normal life.

Advantages of full dentures

  • Allow you to speak well and chew any kind of food
  • Can last for a long time if carefully maintained
  • Improve your aesthetics and self-esteem.

Removable Partial Dentures

If some natural teeth is still in place and healthy there is no need to extract them because they are useful to support partial dental prostheses to complete the teeth arch. Partial dentures attach to the natural dental elements thank to special metal hooks that often are visible. The advantages of partial dentures is that they can be removed from the mouth after each meal and easily cleaned. In addition it is better to sleep without them in the mouth to allow the gingiva to rest.

Dental or Maryland bridge (resin retained bridge)

The dental bridge is the most common prostheses used to close the gap leaved by a missing tooth. In other words, if one of your tooth is no more in its place due whatever reason, your dentist can easily create a bridge supported by your natural teeth. In particular there is the Maryland dental bridge that doesn’t require the close teeth to be reduced and encapsulated; in fact, the Maryland bridge is glued to the other dental elements.

In order to develop any kind of dentures, your dentist will take your dental impression to create a plaster model. The dental lab will then modeling the denture base and fake teeth upon that plaster model. You will ask to set different appointments in order to fix all the small details that will make your new prosthesis more comfortable. Please, remember that a little time is required before to feel completely sure wearing new dentures. Your dentist will teach you how to take care of the prosthetic device so it can last long.

About six month after the denture delivery, your jawbone and soft tissue will shrink and get narrower so the denture will not fit the gums  as in the first days. There are a few option to solve this problems. The most used is the denture adhesive you can buy in the store or online. Second you can try to reline your denture using the proper home kit or asking the dentist to do it.

It is very important that dentures fit your gums in the right way otherwise they can cause you sore spots and irritation that may lead to chronic infection. The last advice: after you cleaned your mouth and the dentures, it is not a bad idea to use an antibacterial oral rinse to disinfect your oral cavity.
