The Middle School that Stole Christmas: Sacred Christmas Carols Banned
It’s Christmas time in America which means storefronts everywhere will be a bit brighter and radio stations a bit more joyful. There are many symbols of Christmas in our secular culture. There’s Santa or Frosty the Snowman. There’s talk of elves and magical reindeer. We get Christmas trees and stockings for our fireplaces.
At the end of the day, Christmas isn’t about those things. It’s about the incarnation of Jesus Christ. It’s about how Joy to the World came through a baby.
But the religious reality of Christmas apparently makes some secularists uncomfortable. Uncomfortable enough to try to ban the meaning of Christmas from middle school Christmas concerts!
Robious Middle School in Virginia has decided to ban “anything of a direct sacred nature in order to be more sensitive to the increasing diverse population at the school.” The choir concerts can sing Jingle Bells and Frosty the Snowman, but Christmas classics like Little Drummer Boy, It Came Upon a Midnight Clear, The First Noel, Silent Night, or O Come, O Come, Emmanuel are out.
One frustrated parent stated, "It just seems like ... everywhere you look everyone's afraid of stepping on someone's toes or everything is being so sensitive. I’m trying to rationalize how you can encourage diversity and yet be exclusionary in one specific area,” Allen told the television station.
The reality is that many American’s do know the truth – that Christmas is about King Jesus – but want to do everything possible to avoid acknowledging him.
But here’s the thing: they shouldn’t be excluding an entire class of music because it makes them uncomfortable. Classic Christmas hymns are a very important part of our western heritage – to exclude them is not only ridiculous but also educational malpractice.
Our country has a Christian heritage and comes from the Judeo-Christian tradition whether the secularists like it or not.
Please sign this petition to Robious Middle School in Virginia not to exclude all Sacred Christmas Carols – for that is to the detriment of their students.
And let’s all remember the reason for the season: King Jesus who came as a baby to save us. So turn up the Christmas music and sing out Hark the Harold Angles Sing with gusto!
