Film "Benedetta" potpisuju redatelj Paul Verhoeven i produkcijska kuća Pathé Films. “Benedetta” je predstavljena u natjecateljskom izboru na ovogodišnjem Cannesu, a prikazuje Benedettu, redovnicu, mističarku, koja s drugom redovnicom ulazi u lezbijski odnos.
U filmu koji obiluje lezbijskim pornografskim scenama producenti osobito ističu scenu u kojoj se redovnice prepuštaju seksualnim užicima s malim kipom Djevice Marije.
Autori su iskoristili lik Benedette koji se djelomično temelji na istinitoj priči, kako bi šokirali gledatelje, promovirali lezbijsku pornografiju te vrijeđali katolike i njihove vrijednosti.
Čini se da malo ljudi smeta bezrazložna mržnja i bogohuljenje na kršćane dok čak i bezazleni satirični prikazi Muhameda izazvaju masovno zgražanje javnosti i optužbe za "islamofobiju".
Da je riječ o nekoj drugoj religiji pripadnici političkog i medijskog establishmenta bi već osudili bezosjećajnost ili raspirivanje mržnje međutim otvoreno ismijavanje s kršćanstvom ne izazva gotovo nikakvu reakciju zaštitnika ljudskih prava, novinara niti političara.

Dear Mr. Seydoux
I am dismayed by your choice to produce this film which does not seek to highlight a historical event, but rather to showcase a shocking film with numerous pornographic scenes. The pornographic scenes between nuns and the use of a statuette of the Virgin Mary as a sex object are deeply disrespectful and a blatant affront to the community of over 2 billion Christians worldwide. Your depiction of Christianity is so grotesque that it is offensive even to those who are not Christians.
I am deeply disappointed by your blatant disrespect for so many of the world's population who find your depiction of Christ blasphemous, disrespectful, and deeply offensive.
I ask you to please stop the release of this film and apologize to those Christians who have been offended.
